Prof. Albert Jan van den Berg, partner at Hanotiau & van den Berg, is a distinguished international arbitrator and counsel in Brussels, Belgium. He acts as a presiding and party-appointed arbitrator in complex commercial and investment arbitrations. In addition, he represents clients as counsel in international commercial arbitrations and sets aside proceedings. Professor van den Berg has been recognised as a leading figure in the field of international arbitration, having received numerous accolades for his remarkable work.

With over four decades of experience in the field, Prof. van den Berg has significantly contributed to developing international arbitration law. He is Honorary President of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration and a Distinguished Faculty Co-Chair of the International Arbitration LL.M. Program at the University of Miami School of Law. He is also a Visiting Professor at Georgetown University Law Centre and Tsinghua University School of Law and a member of the faculty and the advisory board of the University of Geneva Master’s in International Dispute Settlement Program.

Prof. van den Berg’s knowledge and expertise in international arbitration have been widely recognised. He has authored numerous publications, including on the New York Convention of 1958. Professor van den Berg is Emeritus Professor (Arbitration Chair) at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, and has held leadership positions in various international arbitration organisations, including the Netherlands Arbitration Institute and the London Court of International Arbitration.
